Kokapet Lake: A Natural Oasis Amidst Hyderabad’s Tech Landscape
Tucked within the bustling IT corridor of Hyderabad, Kokapet Lake stands as a rare and precious reminder of the city’s natural heritage. As towering IT parks, premium residences, and rapid infrastructure rise around it, this once-pristine water body has silently suffered the consequences of urban growth — pollution, encroachment, and neglect.
But where others saw decline, Dhruvansh NGO saw potential — and stepped in to breathe new life into one of Hyderabad’s most important urban lakes.
Why Kokapet Lake Matters
Located in a prime location near Financial District and Gachibowli, Kokapet Lake is not just any water body — it is a landmark within Hyderabad’s tech belt. It holds ecological, environmental, and cultural significance.
- Acts as a groundwater recharge zone for surrounding communities
- Provides a habitat for migratory birds and native species
- Offers much-needed green space for residents and tech professionals
- Helps regulate urban temperatures and air quality
Dhruvansh NGO’s Mission: Restoration with Responsibility
Dhruvansh began its restoration work at Kokapet Lake in 2024, aiming to bring back its natural beauty and ecological function. With support from volunteers, civic authorities, and environmentally conscious citizens, we launched a series of initiatives to protect and revive this iconic lake.
Key Initiatives by Dhruvansh at Kokapet Lake
🌊 Desilting & Clean-Up Drives
We organized regular lake clean-up drives to remove plastic waste, construction debris, and silt that had clogged the lake over the years.
🌿 Native Tree Plantation
A green buffer zone was created by planting over 1,500 native trees and shrubs to prevent soil erosion and attract biodiversity.
🕊 Biodiversity Restoration
With floating islands, bird perches, and habitat conservation efforts, we’ve seen a return of kingfishers, egrets, and butterflies to the lake’s surroundings.
👨👩👧👦 Community Engagement & Awareness
We partnered with nearby schools, tech campuses, and residents for lake walks, eco-education programs, and sustainability workshops.
🚮 Sustainable Waste Management
Segregation bins, compost pits, and waste awareness signage now dot the lake’s boundary — helping reduce further contamination.
A Community-Led Comeback
What sets Kokapet Lake apart is its strategic location — a natural lung space in one of Hyderabad’s fastest-developing IT zones. As tech professionals and residents increasingly seek a balance between work and wellness, this lake is evolving into a space for relaxation, reflection, and reconnection with nature.
With growing community participation, this lake is no longer forgotten. It’s becoming a living example of ecological revival in an urban jungle.
The Road Ahead
We’re only halfway through the journey. Here’s what Dhruvansh NGO plans next for Kokapet Lake:
- Constructing an eco-friendly walking trail around the lake
- Introducing solar-powered lighting and water aeration systems
- Establishing a Lake Watch Group for citizen-led monitoring
- Hosting green events like birdwatching mornings, nature yoga, and clean-up marathons
