Restoring Janamma Lake
Once affected by sewage, garbage dumping, and siltation, Janamma Cheruvu is being restored by Dhruvansh NGO through a blend of nature-based solutions, scientific restoration, and community participation.
Our mission is to restore water quality, strengthen biodiversity, and create sustainable green surroundings—transforming a once-degraded waterbody into a thriving urban ecosystem once again.

1. Cleanup & Inflow Management
Debris & Silt Removal: Clearing historical accumulations of organic sludge and solid waste, and opening choked water inlets to optimize natural runoff and rainwater entry.
Effluent Diversion: Intercepting raw sewage lines and diverting untreated effluent away from the core basin while utilizing natural filtration mechanisms for incoming water.
Basin Shaping: Customizing the 1-acre lake bed layout to support varied water depths, dedicated wetland zones, and stable aquatic margins.
2. Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs) & Bioremediation
Biological Filtration: Deploying customized modular Floating Treatment Wetlands constructed from buoyant, eco-friendly materials to provide structural support for plant roots.
Nutrient Extraction: Cultivating dense colonies of native hyper-accumulators—such as Vetiver, Canna, and local reeds—whose root systems naturally absorb nitrates, phosphates, and heavy metals from the water column.
Aeration Integration: Implementing aeration techniques to elevate Dissolved Oxygen (DO) levels, eliminate foul anaerobic odors, and accelerate the natural bacterial digestion of organic waste.
3. Runoff & Shoreline Management
Wetland Integration: Replacing traditional hardscape elements with a dedicated wetland zone to naturally buffer runoff, filter street drainage, and manage fluctuating water levels before it enters the main basin.
Erosion Control: Designing gentle, vegetated slopes and bioswales along the perimeter to catch and filter runoff naturally.
4. Biodiversity Integration & Habitat Creation
Shoreline Stabilization: Planting dense rows of native saplings and water-loving vegetation along the banks to stabilize soil, prevent erosion, and create a natural biological shield.
Micro-Ecosystem Reconstitution: Introducing balanced aquatic life and native plantings to establish a healthy food web that welcomes back diverse wildlife, including nesting waterbirds, waders, pollinators, and small mammals drawn to the restored green buffers.
5. Community Hubs & Ecological Education
Living Ecological Showcase: Transforming the restored 1-acre perimeter into an attractive, high-value environmental asset, open-air biological laboratory, and scenic focal point for local visitors and researchers.
Long-Term Stewardship: Engaging local communities, schools, and volunteers to protect the revived habitat, monitor local fauna, and ensure sustainable upkeep of the urban ecosystem.
