Bird Nest-Making Workshop

Small Homes. A Bigger Tomorrow.

A hands-on conservation initiative by Dhruvansh to create safe nesting spaces for birds in our cities. Join us to learn, create and contribute to a healthier, greener environment.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Building Bird-Friendly Cities

The bird nest-making workshop is one of the flagship community-driven conservation initiatives led by Dhruvansh. This activity engages volunteers, school children and corporate groups to assemble durable, artificial wooden bird houses using pre-cut wooden boards, screws and hand tools.

The initiative directly addresses the loss of natural bird habitats caused by rapid urban development in Hyderabad, providing safe nesting sanctuaries for house sparrows, robins and other small avian species.

THE NEED

Why Artificial Nests?

Urban expansion, concrete architecture, modern glass buildings and deforestation have drastically reduced natural tree hollows and eaves where sparrows and small birds traditionally nest. By erecting sturdy, weather-resistant wooden bird boxes, Dhruvansh offers an immediate and practical solution to revive declining bird populations in Hyderabad.

“Small actions create big change. Give birds a home.”

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT USED

Simple Materials. Lasting Impact.

Pre-Cut Wooden

Natural, untreated wood panels cut into standard sizes for assembling the bird house.

Screws

Zinc-coated or stainless-steel screws provide strong and durable joints for long-term use.

Screwdrivers / Power Drivers

Used by participants to securely fasten the wooden boards during nest assembly.

Hanging Brackets / Wire Clamps

Used to securely mount finished bird houses onto trees, poles, or perimeter fences.

STEP-BY-STEP NEST ASSEMBLY PROCESS

From Pieces to a Purpose

01. Prepare the Boards

Arrange the six wooden pieces—base, roof, side walls, back and front panel—with the pre-drilled bird entrance.

02. Assemble the Nest

Align the boards carefully and secure each joint with screws, adding drainage holes and a protective roof overhang.

03. Inspect the Finish

Check for protruding screws and ensure the interior remains smooth, natural and free from chemical finishes.

04. Ready for Installation

Complete the bird house and prepare it for secure placement in a suitable outdoor location.
