NITI Aayog National Recognition

National Recognition | 2022 – 2024

Selected by NITI Aayog, Government of India, for inclusion in the official Compendium of Best Practices in Water Management, Dhruvansh’s restoration of Neknampur Lake was recognised as an exemplary model of sustainable urban water management. The initiative demonstrated how low-cost, nature-based solutions, including floating treatment wetlands, phytoremediation, and community participation, can address urban lake pollution and support ecological recovery. This recognition highlights Dhruvansh’s commitment to developing scalable, practical, and environmentally responsible solutions for healthier water ecosystems.

National Water Award (2019)

Conferred By: Ministry of Water Resources & Ganga Rejuvenation (Government of India), Delhi

Presented at the national level, this honor was awarded to Dhruvansh for their pioneering eco-restoration and lake rejuvenation models. Dhruvansh won this recognition as the first and only NGO from Telangana to secure the National Water Award, earned through their work deploying natural, low-cost bio-remediation tools such as Floating Treatment Wetlands (FTWs), phytoremediation, and solar aeration to clean heavily polluted urban water bodies.

In addition to improving water quality, these floating ecosystems provide shelter and feeding areas for fish, insects, and other aquatic organisms. As the plants grow, they contribute to biodiversity and ecological balance within the lake. Floating Treatment Wetlands offer a sustainable and visually appealing approach to restoring degraded urban lakes while supporting the long-term health of the aquatic ecosystem.

Governors’ Excellence Award (2024 / 2025)

Conferred By: Government of Telangana

Awarded during the At Home Ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad, this award recognized Dhruvansh as the ‘Best Environmental Organization in Telangana’. Dhruvansh secured this prestigious honor for their sustained, hands-on ecological restoration work across multiple lakes—including Neknampur Lake, Janamma Cheruvu, and Kotha Cheruvu Kokapet—and their integrated community water-management frameworks.

Continuous observation also helps measure the effectiveness of restoration measures and provides valuable information for future conservation planning. By tracking changes over time, restoration teams can make informed decisions and respond to environmental concerns more effectively. Ecological Monitoring ensures that restoration remains science-based, measurable, and sustainable, supporting the long-term protection and management of the lake ecosystem.

Madhulika Choudhary and Dhruvansh were recognized for using digital outreach and social media to promote lake conservation, mobilize volunteers, and inspire environmental action.
